The protein content in Chlorella Extract is as high as 58-62% (dry weight), 3.2 times that of beef, and all 9 essential amino acids, of which the content of lysine is 5.2g/100g, 41% higher than soybean. As per a 2023 paper released in the Journal of Nutrition in Japan, its phycocyanin (content ≥15%) possesses a DPPH free radical scavenging rate of 91.3% (concentration 0.5mg/mL), 2.1-fold that of vitamin C, and the superior thermal stability (activity retention rate ≥96% after 2 hours treatment at 70℃). Heavy metal chelation tests showed that the adsorption ability of polysaccharide (molecular weight 10-50kDa) for lead ions was 328mg/g, which was 72% higher than activated carbon.
Metabolic regulation activity has been clinically shown to be effective. Double-blind trial (n=200) showed that with 8 weeks’ daily intake of 3g Chlorella Extract, the total cholesterol was reduced by 18.7% and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) was reduced by 23.4%. The improvement rate of fasting blood glucose in diabetic patients was 29% higher than that of the placebo group, and the insulin sensitivity index (HOMA-IR) was increased by 0.87. Its chlorophyll content (3-5%) increases the efficiency of intestinal detoxification, and the frequency of defecation in constipation patients is increased from 2.3 to 4.7 times a week, and the clearance rate of toxins is increased by 61%.
The immune augmentation mechanism was validated by different indexes. Mice experiments showed that Chlorella Extract (dose 100mg/kg) enhanced NK cell activity to 2.8 times of the control group, and IL-12 secretion increased by 47%. In the clinical trial (n=150), the geometric mean titer (GMT) of antibody was 1:1280 in vaccinators with chlorella, 3.4 times of the control group. The white blood cell recovery rate was hastened by 5.3 days after radiotherapy, and the infection rate dropped by 72%.
Process breakthrough to improve bioavailability. Pulsed electric field extraction technology facilitated cell wall breaking rate ≥99% and the extraction rate of β-carotene increased from 68% to 93%. Supercritical CO2 technology can control the rate of chlorophyll decomposition at below 2%, and the efficiency in manufacturing is 3.2 times greater than the solvent technology. Based on 2023 global supply chain, the Chlorella Extract price per kg of industrial output fell to $45 from 2015 by 58%, and the percentage of terminal good premium reached 340%.
Both the environmental gain and economic gain are a double win. Chlorella culture systems produce 15 tons of protein per hectare, 58 times more than soybean fields, and reduce water consumption by 97 percent. Carbon neutral project figures show that each ton of Chlorella Extract can capture 2.8 tons of CO₂, with a carbon credit value of €84/ton. EU Algae Energy Programme (ABP) has determined its biodiesel output to be 18% with production cost being 32% lower than palm oil.
Market statistics confirm superfood status. From the Grand View Research report, the global market size for Chlorella Extract was 380 million in 2023 and had an average annual growth of 14.7220/kg, 89% higher than 2018.
Security standards create consumer confidence. Acute toxicity test (rats) LD50 > 10g/kg, subchronic toxicity test (6 months) did not observe the degree of adverse reaction (NOAEL) of 3g/kg/day. The EU EFSA certification proves that there is no risk of excessive heavy metals (lead ≤0.1ppm, arsenic ≤0.05ppm) for less than 5g daily intake. Drug interaction tests also revealed that its impact on CYP450 enzyme system was less than 3%, and safety while combined with usual drugs was 99.6%.
From nutrition to environmental sustainability, Chlorella Extract, with its excellent 5.2mg folic acid content per gram (110% daily requirement) and 14mg iron (78% daily requirement), along with carbon sequestration and efficiency resource advantages, is changing the global standard for superfoods, and the market size is expected to be more than $620 million in 2025.
